New old project-1946 Austin gasser
Let me know what you do for the alt, I'll have the same problem. I did find this place, and they have a bracket that will keep it in the same spot. Look at there part number 219-alt

No DQ this Friday. Got a meeting in Salem friday night.
I have a custom built alt. bracket I built already, as my location has clearance issues with needing to swing the alt. out in the left fender location to clear the hood. It used one header bolt, and the front of the head, but I'll add a bracket that goes above the header tube for #1 cyl. and uses both bolts.
They do make stock mounts that bolt to the two front header bolts on driver' side, so if you have a driver's side alt. you can use that. Can't say as I've seen them for pass. side, and that's probably what your Camaro uses.

The break in went flawlesly! Never had a hitch and temp stayed under 185 max. After the break in I took her for a spin and it performs as I hoped. Great lowend power and torque, but pulls hard to 6,000 with little effort.
I think this head/cam combo is perfect, and so much smoother than what I took off. Idle was quite a bit higher with the new cam and heads, so had to turn it down a bit to get back to around 800 rpm in neutral.
Now to put ome more miles on it this weekend! We're going out to Hurst Racing Tires shop Sat. morning to watch how they build the tires and make the whitewalls.

Trip to Hurst was great, and I was impresed with how they build their cheater slicks. I they had a size for my car I'd probably buy a pair of old style pie crust slicks.
Picked up an MSD box for the car from a friend today. Should help performance and firing the ignition with a longer/hotter spark.

Installed new rear wheel cylinders today, it was a pain. The wheel cylinders went in easy, but then the fun started. Couldn't get the flare fittings to reseal, and had to run them into my flaring tool again to get them to seal up. Pain in the rear, but eventually I got them to stop drooling down the backing plate. I'm guessing it was the cheap crap Chinese wheel cylinders. should have gotten kits and rebuilt what I had instead.
The MSD box went in easy, and was a dream to hook up. Still need to open up the plug gap from 35 to 50, but I'll wait until tomorrow when the engine is cooled off. Had to reset the timing, as it didn't like the advance I had in it. Started and idled fine, but had a miss at cruising speed. After timing it again the miss went away.

I'm running a stock distributor with a Pertronix conversion kit in it.
Oh boy! The MSD works great, and after opening up the plug gap to .050" the performance is even better! I love the way the 327's wind, and this one seems to finally be sorted out and winding so smoothly that it grabs redline pretty fast!
Took it down the freeway on ramp and it quickly hit 80 mph by the end of the ramp. Looking forward to trouble free miles now that things are sorted out!
