Wow, your FIL is going to town on that hood. That sucker was some high spots for sure. I wish I had someone I could have do my body work. I would rebuild the whole car for someone in trade, lol.
Keep on keepin on bro.

He said that half of that hood was prepped by the PO with a sandblaster. I guess he has his work cut out for him on it from what he says... That sucks. We did just pick up another parts car today, between the three of them, we should be able to finish the two cars for us now.

Really the reason that I wanted this car was because I need a drivers side fender. My FIL has been going back and forth on wanting the brown Z back to make a drag car out of it. This latest car is in WAY better shape than the brown car, except that the front clip on the brown one is really nice from the looks of it. So I think that he is just going to keep the new blue one, and try to make a driver out of it. That means that I'll be using the Z28 look after all. Being back to work I'll be able to lay off of the side work and start hammering away on these cars again. Here is the blue car we just got.

It was another one of my random days of getting alot done. The brakes are totally swapped over from the 81 to the 79, now I have a totally new brake system, from rotors to calipers to lines. I cleaned up all of my holders and painted them, and the bolts and gave them a shot of paint too. It still sucks that the car had new brakes put on it, then had to sit outside for a winter, I had to clean everything up and the rotors insides are rusty... Oh well, can't win them all.
I also pulled the other Z28 fender off of the brown car, they are both good fenders from the looks of it, I'll get them ready to go tomorrow sometime, and also hopefully get my steering column from the brown one painted up so it is ready to go in. I'd much rather have a tilt column.

Just an update here, last night I spent the entire evening pulling the fuel lines off of the parts car, wire wheeling them up, wire brushing between the protective shield and sanding them and painting them. I also wheeled up the brackets and bolts and got them painted up, I'll install everything tonight, probably not the rubber hose connections though because I'd like to get new hose and clamps. I'll be getting pics as it goes.
My engine is also getting ready to go to the machine shop, it needs the lifter bores honed out, and the cylinder bores could do with a quick hone too. From sitting all those years it has a bit of flash rust or something in the bores. You should be able to literally lift the lifter in and out with your fingernail, I struggled with pliers doing it. All of this is just because I spent some time making a website for an old friend of mine who is a local engine and race fabricator. I can't believe that I spent so much time the last two years looking around for a builder and a machine shop. He does not advertise though, the website should help bring him people like me, who were not in the car scene their whole lives and don't know anyone else who is.
He also has the transmission, I've got a shift kit and new filter for it, and I also am going to have the front and rear seal changed out too. I've got a 2400 stall for the car too, he is recommending a 4500 to try out. I think I might, he has a 4500, a 3500, and I believe it was a 3000 stall sitting around collecting dust. Oh, and I finally found a stud girdle for the rear end, just needs to be powder coated.

Are the lifters you're pulling used? If so, then don't hone the lifter bores until you try a brand new lifter in them! Lifters get "mushroomed" as they age from running on the cam, and often come out hard. I've had some I had to use vise grips to grab and wiggle out, but the new lifters dropped right in freely.

I got the fuel line installed today. I'm missing one connector, the donor car must have not had one where I put one, so I'll need to get a new one somehow. It looks good at any rate I think, I still need to install the rubber hose connections, I'll do that in a day or so, I am going to get new hose and new hose clamps for it so I don't have anything to worry about. I'm also considering putting a fuel filter someplace convenient, like next to the fuel tank between the frame rail and the tank.
