Default 79 Camaro Project

New to the forums, live in Illinois. Just had a project car given to me and now I get to tinker on it in my garage. From what I have heard, the motor is a 355 and it has a 350 turbo trans. Just cleaned off the rear end and it is a 8.5 inch 10 bolt 2.43:1. Really a fairly solid car.

First arrived.

I am going to drop the trans today and begin working on semi-smoothing the firewall.

Spent the day wire wheeling the frame and looking into smoothing the firewall, also started wheeling the rims for etching primer, primer and paint. Where can I get argent spray paint?

That was pretty fast work. Do you work at a chop shop?

First time actually. Never had a car apart like this before. The interior really only had the front seat and back seats in it. All I had to pull off was the fenders, doors, one door glass, and clip. There is no windshield, I need to get one, the back window is just sitting in there, the fender wells were already off, the hood is fiberglass and was just sitting there not mounted. This car was someones project, who sold it to someone else for a project, now it is mine and my wife's. The guy who gave us the car is my wife's father, who is a body man/painter, I can get advice from him when I need it.

I wonder, what rear ends are swappable for this car? I would like a 4.10, posi would be nice, but what cars could it come out of? And beyond that, where can I find this information out? Thanks

As 5861979z28 stated, a 10 bolt can be made to hold up just fine if correctly built. I too am running a 10 bolt, from a late 2nd gen. Trans Am. I've installed a Power Trax Locker, and a set of Dutchman axles, plus a C-clip eliminator kit, and outboard bearings to handle large offset wheels and tires. I've got less than $1,000 in my rear, including the bargain price of $85 I paid for the complete rearend with sway bar. I still run 3.31 gears, as my big block has enough power and torque to work great with it.
