that 327 is gonna be a beast vall wish i could get a set of AFR head's lol hopefully later on I will for my 468..you should definitely post a video when you fire that bad boy up

No videos when I fire it, as I'll be doing the 2500 rpm breakin for the flat tappet cam. But once it's running and everything is set I'll get video.

Got the pan on today, and a few other things also. Need to get some hardened washers to go between the rocker arm nuts and the pivot *****. I ran out of adjustment just as I reached bottom on the allen locking screw, so one thin washer should allow proper ajustment. Or I may see if the local hardware store has allens that are slightly shorter.

Too bad you werent around the corner Val. I have a set of short poly locks taking up space.

Well the problem is the longer studs on the new heads. I tried them on my old rockers and they have enough room to tighten down, but the new heads bottom out in the nuts before they get quite close enough. Just a few thousandths shorter stud and they'd be fine.

Hmm. I guess I don't understand. I've seen them that have a radius at the bottom instead of threads all the way down. When tightening the rocker it would tighten against the radius.

These are internally threaded all the way to the bottom, but not all the way to the top internally. The set screw actually bottoms out at the top, so once it hits the stop it determines how deep the threaded portion can go over the rocker stud.
I ran the set screw all the way up, and then turned them on the stud and some get tight just as they hit bottom, some are OK, and some not quite make it. Picked up 16 grade 8 washers today, and I'll put a washer under each of them and start adjusting again. I wanted them all the same, even if some didn't need a washer. Should be good to go now.

I understand now. I though you were running out of thread on the stud. Weird the poly locks aren't threaded all the way through. It seems like it would be easier to manufacture that way.

Not sure this will help but... One time I had four poly locks hitting the VC. Since it was all four corners I didn't think much of it. I just used a ball peen hammer to dimple the VC. A year later during a tear down I noticed that the fulcrum on the four tall ones were upside down. I had the flat side down and adjusted off the round side. I felt like a idiot. Lesson learned I double check every time now.

My poly locks only go on one way. Since they're not threaded through there's no way to get them on uside down.
No progress the last couple days; we're scouting for elk season, so get back on it this weekend.

ELK! We don't have them. My bro hit a Moose in Montana though. That truck was never the same, lol.

I didn't mean the poly locks were upside down. The roller fulcrum in the rocker was upside down, making the lock sit up higher.

OK! I didn't know it was the pivot ball. That'd be a tough one to put in upside down with one side rounded and one flat.

Yeah, we've got a fair number of elk, but the suckers are in really dense woods and getting one isn't easy! I may or may not go on the hunt. I've taken elk, and as tough as the hunt is, the work really gets hard once you got one down in a deep draw and that sucker weighs 500 lbs easily! I got a cow elk one year that went over 700 lbs. and thought we'd never get her out!
At my age it's not that much fun, plus it's cold and wet!
