New old project-1946 Austin gasser
I use studs on mine. Mostly because of the aluminum heads. I would hate myself if I were to srip out the bolt hole. I don't think there is enough meat for a heli coil.
Anyhow, the gaskets just slip on the studs and away I go. I don't even use gasket sealer. You'll find that with your AFR's the gasket surface is milled flat. Combine that with your covers with machined surfaces, it shouldn't leak ever.

well it looks like summer may be officially over here. Started raining Sunday, and has been off and on since then. Supposed to be nice the next few days, but who really knows?
I'll be out of town for the next week, but when I return I'm going to start the teardown on the 327 to begin the buildup. I'll get intake, heads and pan off, then take a look at the rings and bearings before installing the new cam, heads, and timing set. If it needs it, I'll at least put fresh bearings in, and depending on how the cylinders look I may run a hone down the bores and re-ring it too, before putting it all together again.
I'm looking forward to getting back into the car, and once the engine upgrades are done I'll start looking at body and paint work too. Should be a fun winter!

I plan on a simple single stage urethane, no base/clear. I haven't decided for sure on a color, but I'm leaning towards the old competition orange that many 60's racers used on their gassers. I'm also pretty fond of the black, if I can get it straight enough to do a black.
Last part for the 327 showed up today! My stud girdle is here, so next week I'll begin tearing the Austin apart. Last show of the season is Sunday. Somehow the weather has turned for the better, so should be cool, but clear!
I know the Camaro's 427 likes these crisp cool days more. It runs a bit warmer than the Austin, so the cool air really feels like it gains a few HP.
