'63 Falcon project
I have been pricing exhaust tubing, and pieces to build my exhaust system, and run it all the way out the back. The pieces seem to run pretty high, and many kits include mufflers, and I have the welded case Flowmasters I already purchased.
So I went to Jegs and Summit to look at complete exhaust systems that might be more affordable. I found a couple systems with 2.5" tubing that might be reworked slightly to fit. One was a Mustang system and I thought it might be a bit shorter than I wanted. The other was a Chevelle system, and I liked that the tailpipes went straight back, not turned down.
I decided to order the Chevelle system from Jegs, and with all the hangers, tubing, and bends I should be able to rework it to make a decent looking exhaust. I'll still need to buy a couple flanges in 2.5" to weld into the inside edge of my collectors, so the headers will be able to separate from the exhaust.

It might be a bit more restrictive over say a 3", but it will be fine for the street. Since I'll have my collectors capped on the fenderwell headers, I will connect the exhaust system out the side of the collector, so that I can uncap without dropping the exhaust pipes. I want the car to not be over the top loud with the system closed, and plenty of power when it's open. Even if I lost 20 hp closed, it really wont be a big deal.
Weather is cold and misrable today, and raining like heck! I just spent a few hours on the Falcon, and went back into the warm house! I got the tunnel ram permanently installed, and pulled all the mockup fuel lines and made them permanent too. Then I stabbed the Mallory distributor, and put my Moon Equip. breathers on the valve covers. Gave the seats a final coat of black dye, and closed up shop.
Looks like the same cold, rainy weather all week.

No work on the car today, again. Still miserable cold, so I made a parts run that ended up having to go to 5-6 places until I was done. Only one place had braided SS flex brake lines, and they're charging gold prices for them! Yikes, my wallet hurts!
The rest the pieces and parts were minor by comparison, but these little bits sure do take their monetary toll, and no used options either!
Did put some more small parts on the engine. Valve cover breathers, and scoop.

I love the Hilborn style scoops, but didn't want two cars with Hilborn scoops. I figured this being a big flat hood the bug catcher scoop would not be too large for the look I wanted. It's definitely not a period look for a gasser, as the bug catcher scoops came after the gasser era, but I like it too.
Not really. Once I cut the hood to fit that scoop, anything smaller would need a smaller hole. I wont own a car with a hood opening that doesn't fit the scoop properly. Just looks tacky to have a big old hole that's not shaped to your scoop.
