You can make the scoops functional. I did it and haven't had any trouble with water. When it rains it usually gets shot to the back of the firewall and even then very little gets back there. Also, drove it with snow on the hood today and had no trouble there either. But after reading your thread, not sure if you'd want to do it because it doesn't seem like you've been having the best of luck. I can post you some pics of how it looks if you'd like. Just don't shoot water in it when you wash your car.
Also, you don't need to completely remove the lining. Just a bit under the scoops.

well I was thinking of removing the hoodliner anyway, just because it looks like crap. If I'm at a show with the hood up, it's really ugly to see. Ideally, I'd really like to find a new one with "Z28" stitched in it.

hey Crab! yeah, I haven't been around much, mostly due to the fact I got so fed up with this car I just had to take a break for a while. I'm startin' to get that itch again though....

And when I'm talking hoodliners, this is more what I'm talking about:

(obviously it's a Corvette, but you get the idea)

I've seen so many 5th gens with sweet hoodliners I'm extremely jealous
