Picked up a car today from ThaDex, me and my Father in law split it actually, I wanted the rear end and the sway bars, and he wanted the car. Ended up being a good deal for us both.

That 4:10 12 bolt should hold whatever you build for an engine! But 4:10's will sure keep her wound tight going down the freeway! You'll be going for an overdrive now for sure! I saw a 12 bolt at the swap meet yesterday for $300, but it was for a Nova. I think they'll drop right in a 1st gen, but a bit narrow for a 2nd gen.

This is the 4.10 posi rear end I get to put in my car. Now I definitely can't wait to finish it!

This one is just a 10 bolt, but more than enough for anything I'll ever throw at it I would imagine. I'll be thrilled with 350-400hp at first. If it has more than my 1994 Z28, that will be more than enough to satisfy for a long time. I think, that once this is done, I may start a more serious engine build, but only as funds are there.

We'll see though. I could just as easily keep doing upgrades to this car for years. Like you just said, an overdrive trans would be nice. I think a lower ratio power steering gearbox would be cool, I am currently trying to find out which 3rd gen's had the better ratio. A good sound system is definitely a option I want to plan for. I am going to have a buddy of mine prewire for any eventualities.

Duh! I saw it was a 10 bolt, but went brain dead when I was posting. I still think it will hold up fine to over 400 hp. After 450 you proabably want to rework it with some upgrades like axles, c-clip kit, and maybe weld the tubes to the carrier.

For right now, I will be shocked if I get 400 hp out of the motor. That is actually my goal, not that I am a real engine builder, just gathering parts that seem to make sense, and I'll put them together and see what happens.

Hey, sweet score steve. Congrats on the posi

looks like your father inlaw got himself a nice project too.

i got a 81 parts car off of a local classified ad (three hrs away from me), it was supposed to have a 4:10 rear w/th400, and when i got there it was a th350 and wasn't posi at all. i was a little p'd but i ended up paying $300 for it instead of $700 (he must have read that i was furious with my reactions) so he said $500 and i said no im going home, then he came to the truck and said he would give it to me for $400 and i said "budy i dont even want to deal with you most i'll give you is $300" and he said sure and sorry for the inconveinience. i ended up ripping out all of the interior even the steering column, locks/keys and drive train then selling for $300.

I need to find another one sometime too, I need front seats and could use some money parting one out. I am also thinking about finding a running 350 just to toss in my car so it will be running, that will free up some time to do another motor right.

Well, they are swapped, still need to finish them up. I want new u bolts, t bolts and hopefully isolation pads if they are available anywhere, if not, I guess they could be reused.

I used my modified motorcycle jack to move the rear end around this time and it is about a million times easier. I also managed to catch the back of my head on this:

It is pretty sharp, my wife is a nurse, she says I'll live.

Helped my father in law put his car back together the other day too. He doesn't want it sitting in his yard in pieces.

I'll finish up on Thursday. Got a birthday party tomorrow. I hope to get the hardware I need tomorrow, and a couple bags of black beauty for sandblasting. I also am getting a double glider bench to sandblast this weekend. That is going to be good for $150-$200, I'll almost make as good of money sandblasting as I do working on computers.

The isolation pads are best replaced by poly pads. Easy to find at most places, or order them from Summit.
