New old project-1946 Austin gasser
Had my left blinker quit on me the other day. Started shorting out the fuse every time I turned the L. blinker on. After the temps got warmer today, (and sunny!) I opened the garage and began trouble shooting. Started isolating the left side wiring, and checking it visually from the turn signal switch back. I wired all this from scratch without a harness, so pretty familiar with what went where, and how I routed it. Didn't get much past the switch when I saw a wire with a bare end hanging just above the steering column brace. A quick look nearby discovered another wire with a crimped butt splice, but nothing in the other end!
I soldered and heat shrunk almost all the connections, as I hate butt splices, but needed to make a three way splice to the left side indicator, so I did one at that point. Sure enough, it pulled out, and was touching bare metal, so every time I turned on the blinker it blew the fuse!
An easy fix, but I had to put another butt splice in, so I'm still not confident with it for the long run!

I know a bunch, and none of those lazy bums would come over and help me!
Wanted to get one task done on the Austin this winter also, which was lowering the rear an inch or so. Wanted it a little softer also, but that depends on what I could find for springs to fit my coilovers. Got the coilovers off the rear today, but I'm guessing it might be tough to find new springs for them. They are much larger diameter than the typical coilover shock, with 3" ID, and 4" OD. Looked around on Ebay and Speedway, but nothing really in the size and length I need. I may end up cutting coils and reworking what I have to make them shorter. Can only go an inch, or I wont have enough static tension to keep them together. If that lowers the car an inch, then that's close enough.
We have a good swap meet coming up Sat., and another the following Sat., so might find springs, or maybe complete units at one or the other. I wrote down all the measurements, so I can take them with me.

where are you getting the info on a swap meet this weekend? I cant find anything on one. I see there is one in canby the 19th and then the Vancouver hi-pro one the following weekend.
Google "wild to mild Albany swap meet" I have a few friends that are setting up to sell there. It's this time every year, and so poorly advertised that PDX Car Culture, and NW Cruise News don't even list it on their sites. 9:00am Sat. and none Sunday.
After three times of removing and shortening coils on my rear shocks, I have the coils as short as they could be and stay together, but still only lowered the rear about 1/2". I finally bit the bullet and sprang for a new pair of QA1 fully adjustable coilovers. Should be here by the weekend, or early next week, and then I can finally set the rear up where I want it.
