New old project-1946 Austin gasser
Yeah, I noticed when I hit small bumps that the front end seeemed to jump up and down a bit, but didn't put that together until I saw it broken.
More like stronger, better, slower! Seems every time I redo something on it I make it heavier duty, and heavy means more weight!
Back on the Austin for some changes. I had located the fuel cell and battery in the trunk originally, along with the electric fuel pump. Decided I wanted to remove some of the noise from the fuel pump, and make it easier to service, so I relocated the fuel pump to the area below the fuel cell.
Also found some of the 3M spray adhesive I used to install my naugahyde interior trim was letting go. The widnow trim had loosened up enough to slip out and hang down. I removed the trim today and glued everything with contact cement. The contact cement has never let me down before. It takes longer, and it's stinkier, but it sure holds well!
Starting to gather parts for the off season too. I'm planning some engine mods that will hopefully make the little gasser even scarier! Got a line on some new World Performance heads that are reasonably priced. Hoping they aren't too big, as they are 2.10 intakes and 1.60 exhaust valves, and have 210 runners. 64cc chanbers, which is great for the compression I have.
Also have a new cam, lifters, and rockers coming. Hopefully they'll all work better with the tunnel ram and make a real set of the pants improvement in acceleration! I'll drop my gear drive in while the engine is apart for the changes this fall. I was hesitating on installing the gear drive after putting one in my buddy's 350, but his has quieted down a bunch with age, and sounds fine now.

Still looking for heads. The World aluminums fell through, and the 2.02 Chevy heads were not what as advertised on CL, so still chasing others. Lots of time 'til winter, so maybe some 1.94 or 2.02's will show up by then.
Woo hoo!!!!!! Bought my new heads today! Been checking Craigslist 3-4 times a day for weeks, and calling, looking, but no luck. Finally at about 10:00am this morning a guy put a pair of AFR heads up for sale. These are what I bought:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AFR-1040/?rtype=10
They're 195 runners, with 2.05 intakes and 1.60 exhaust valves, angle plug. Brand spanking new, but were installed on an engine that never got fired. The seller builds hotrods and has his engine work done by a local shop. They accidentally overbored the engine too far and it wouldn't hold compression. He pulled the heads to check them and the bore, then found the bore issue. In the meantime he bought a complete 327 with camel hump heads and dropped it in the '32 Ford, so he settled up with the engine builder and kept the heads.
I got new AFR head bolts tossed in on the deal also, and the heads cost me a whoppping $500!!! I thought I'd surely find something wrong with the ad when I got to look at them, but they only had some silicone on the exhaust gasket area from the Sanderson headers. Sanderson don't use exhaust gaskets, just hi temp silicone to seal them. Everything else shows no signs of ever having been fired or even test run on an engine.
Just need to get a set of rocker arms now, and they'll go on the Austin this winter!

Dude, you're gonna love those AFR heads. I have Dart 215cc runners on mine with 2.05/1.60 valves with 10.75:1 scr and a cam with 278/285 adv dur (roughly est with the 1.6 roller rockers). Those heads and runners just keep screaming for more air and fuel. With that little 327 spinning up I think you'll be fine and they'll flow awesome.
I'm sure they'll be a big improvemnet over what I have! I'm ordering a new cam also that's 284/284 duration, around .490" lift, and 112 degrees separation. I thought about getting the 1.6 roller rockers, but I think I'll stick with 1.5 on them. Should be a fun winter project!
If it were me, I would go with the 1.6 rockers just to put you above .500 lift. With the 1.6's you should see around .530+ lift and with that runner/valve combo I would want to unshroud the valve as much as possible. What's the compression ratio again? I run flat tops with -4cc valve reliefs and don't come anywhere near smacking with .600+ lift.
