Is it a HEI dist? Did you remember to plug the wire harness back into the side of the cap? By any chance, did you forget to plug in the modual under the cap? Or did you forget to put one back in?

I cant post more than a line or two at a time for some reason so here it goes again.
Bought a 78 Camaro, supposedly with a 69 corvette 350. Did an oil change right away and found out that the dipstick tube was broken. No problem, ordered a replacement, wrong part came, returned it, wrong part again and again. So I fixed my old tube and reinstalled it. Now the first thing is, as far as I know GM didnt make a passenger side dipstick until 81, if this is true it cant be a 69 corvette motor.

If it has the points ignition check and make sure they are opening and are not burnt. Also check the wire to make sure its not broken.

RE: No start, please help
Ok, have tried rewiring the car several times, purchased a new cap rotor plugs wires and coil. All hei power related wires are plugged in and receiving power. There is spark and fuel.
Could a timing issue be the demon im looking for could it be something else.
There cant be but so many issues. What gets me is that the car was fine until the wires were replaced. I tried the old ones again just in case and same thing.

OK, putting on my Sherlock Holmes hat brings the answer to being elementary my dear Watson. Your engine did run, then you changed the wires, now it doesn't run? Hmmmm...I got it! It has to do with the wires and how they're installed. Now that was easy!
So try checking everything, again...
With the #1 cylinder at TDC, compression stroke, make a note of which terminal on the distributor cap the rotor is pointing to. Your #1 plug wire goes there. The rest of the plug wires go on the cap in a clockwise manner following the 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 firing order.
Your cylinders are as follows:
Drivers side bank starting from the front, 1, 3, 5, 7
Passenger side f-b, 2, 4, 6, 8.
If you're getting spark and fuel, and the only thing you changed (initially) was the wires, then it should fire up.

Ok, now for the next problem, none of my gauges work except for the Speedo and Tach. Was debating getting the new dash panel with gauges prewired that year one sells. Anyone seen it or have it? Thoughts?
