Default Fuel guage question

I have recently restored my '68 camaro and since everything has been put back together, the fuel guage needle is pegged in the 3 o'clock position. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks

Possible that it is not making good connection at the fuel tank or a broken wire leading to the fuel tank sensor. I know temp guages will do the same thing if they are not making good contact with the temp sensor. Just a thought.

You ever get this resolved? My 72 just started doing the same thing.

Default Fuel Guage Problem

Have not resolved the issue yet. I have checked the leads from the tank and all look okay - I even took the cluster out again but nothing yet. My lastest thought is that since my car was media blasted and I found the "dust" everywhere, maybe that is breaking the connection somewhere inside the cluster???????????

The gas gauge has two wires to it. One side has keyed power. The other side is a ground wire that comes from the sending unit in the gas tank. There is no power going to the sending unit. The sending unit is basically a coil wound bar with a wiper arm attached to the float. It changes the % of ground sent to the gauge based on the position of the float. A full tank puts the float to the top, gives the gas gauge full ground, and pegs the needle. If the gauge was working before, but doesn't now, then either that wire from the tank to the gauge is shorting out to ground, or the gauge is shot. With the ignition key off, the gauge should drop back down to empty, even if the ground wire is shorted out. If it doesn't drop, the gauge is your problem.

mine I traced back to behind the gauge. I think it has to do with the circuit paper around the fuel gauge. If I reach up there and tap it or mess with it it reads normal.
