need information on an v6 to ls1 swap!!!

Ya I forgot about that like. Been a while since I've read that thread. Ya I guess having a PCM from an ls car that is close to yours makes a huge difference. With all these electronics cars are getting so complicated. It would be nice to see one of these guys who post v6-v8 swap threads actually do the swap. I would do the swap with an ls7 or ls9 but I don't have the money right now. But then again I might just end up buying the newer camaro with the ls9 in it already.

There is an article in a camaro magazine where they did the swap into a 2002 camaro with an ls9 and that was way more work than an average mechanic can do. They had to shave the fire wall down and some other stuff I don't remember every thing they had done to make it fit but it was pretty rediculous. And yes I know I have to change the k member I am changing the whole suspension to bmr including the k member!

While I didnt do the swap personally I know the guy who did and I even helped him out. I DO KNOW what it takes. and lemme tell you if you spread the years out too far you WILL need every part off the donor car period. The guy bent over washing the car is the owner and the one who performed the swap.
This car is a 96 RS, This car started life as a V6, now it has a 2000 LS1 and ALL the 2000 car parts. The 96 had to be stripped to a bare chassis, in order to get everything to function properly. Now unless you really know these cars the only way to tell by looking that this car is not an LS1 car is the fuel line gromet on the left shock tower.

Ya that would be a huge difference going between a 96 and a 2000. If he would have went with a lt1 of the same year I bet it would have been eaiser.
Ya the ls9 is a 6.2L supercharged engine. There's lots of modding to get that thing under the hood of our cars. But that's what makes the finished project so much. The pride and joy of saying I swapped that. These things have lots of potential for engine swaps it's just alot of guys don't want to do them as there's alot of work when it come to wiring everything up. Make sure you get the ls1 mounts and not the ones for the conversion. I've read on ftv6 and gm high performance that if you use the ls1 mounts you'll be able to use the stock mounting holes for you trans cross brace. The conversion one set everything back 3/4 of an inch.

Just read the article about the LS9 swap in the 2000 Camaro that the GMPP guys did and wow that was alot of mods to stuff that engine in there. They had to custom make the engine mounts, shave the cowl to clear the engine and even lower the K member 15mm just to get 3mm of clearance from the top of the engine to the cowl. The ABS unit had to be moved as the engine needed the space it is currently located in. All and all the job looked really nice and thankfully they painted the car this time. I didnt care for the primer black they had when the car had the LS7 in it.
