1996 Camaro Z28 Project Thread
As for the scuff on the door, I heard back from the shop...basically as part of the storage agreement, they're not responsible for projects that are lost, missing, or damaged. So basically my only hope is that the guy who did owns up to it. Doesn't exactly give me any warm and fuzzies...
I'm sure clay bar would help, but honestly I'm more worried about trying to get somebody to accept responsibility for their actions and getting the scratches fixed right, rather than making them less noticeable.
So yesterday, a friend from work and I spent a good portion of the day installing the headers. Went from the top, using the motor mount disconnect, tilt the engine method. Time consuming, but not too terribly painful. So now they're in, I still have to go through and tighten a few bolts here and there, but they're in. Now I can really get cranking.
I also figured out the shift cable problem I was having:

Looks like I'm gonna need to buy a shift cable. Had I understood the construction of it, I would've been a bit more careful with it with the motor out. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20

Yup, got a new cable installed. I have to fight with the grommet a bit more to get it seated properly, but that's not a really big deal. I just finished sandblasting the STB and CAI last night, so I will be powdercoating them on Thursday. I plan on spending a couple days of the long weekend working on the car, so I should be able to make some good progress. The Michigan State car show is tentatively scheduled for April 12th or 13th, so that's my goal for getting it back on the road.
Had a reasonably productive day today. Spent the day getting things buttoned up. Got the interior back together and some other stuff. The biggest headache came when I had to remove the passenger-side header because the cap I had made for the EGR fitting wouldn't fit. So we cut it off and welded it:

Other than that, just a lot of little stuff. BUT, another couple days of good work and this thing should get fired up.
One question, though: I tried getting that grommet seated, but it wasn't really working well. This won't bother at all, will it? (kinda hard to see, it's not properly seated from about 7:00 to 10:00)
