Because, wouldn't the way he's hot-wiring the ignition be bypassing the switch?

if hes running power to the ignition fuse then isnt it before the ignition switch. if hes running power straight to the switch it would still not work if the switch was bad. only way to bypass would be to hook up a separte switch and wiring and im not completely sure thats not whats in it.

The reason why I said that is because he can start it when fiddling with the key, but it won't stay running when he lets go.
I'd hafta look at a schematic, maybe you have one handy, Craby. But what I was wondering was...is the fuse the source of the ignition power back up to the key, or is it a pass through fuse as a safety, with power generating from inside the car first?

OK some times i feel like a complete idiot and i guess lazyness is my problem.....

So some of you guys know that my car was acting funny how i had the ignition toggled, i started another thread thinking it was a seperate problem with the shifting issue turns out its the same problem so....

I had a junk column that came with the car and i studied it. i also removed the column that was in the car. and learned what an ignition switch was, for some reason i thought it was the key cylinder....

I then removed the switch and tried another one i had laying around but it was completely burned up, then tried my switch again (off of the column) and was turning the car on with it but seemed to run into the same problem. which eliminates the lock cylinder and rod being out of alignment....

I have come to the conclusion that a $28 Ignition switch from auto zone will solve my problem tomorrow when i go buy it.

I appreciate your guys help i guess i was just looking for an easy way out and i learned my lesson.. Thank you
