My 1994 V6 Camaro Ignition Is Being Retarded HELP!!
Well the problem was according to the previous owner, is that the ignition would only turn half way for some reason, so he bought a new ignition for it and installed it and it did the same thing. so he took back the ignition then installed a whole new column. ran the old ignition under the dash with old key in it (because of the resister in the key) and drove it like that with no problems for 6 months.
Then my dude jesse traded his van for it, that day the ignition messed up again. on the column the ignition switch seems like this:
Judging off of the clicks as turning the key
OFF
ACC - Nothing
RUN - only Stereo comes on
Start - Half way through the turn dash lights up/ECU turns on. turn tad further, starter engages, vehicle starts, and runs if holding key forward
Get this though the ignition switch actually turns back and turns the stereo on
I'm Confused
but once you let go of the key, the key turns back to the "RUN" Position. and the car turns off like you turned it off. so really if it starts you got to back the key off just a tad so your off the starter and can hold it to keep the ecu on...
Right Now i have the steering wheel off and im realizing the problem might not be with the lock cylinder any help would be appreciated

ok would have been better to let us in on all the info. u have a lose connection or a bad wire between the battery and the fusebox. check the fuse box. wires, fuse connections and such. there is also a power junction box on the passenger side wheelwell. its a small red plastic box. take the wires lose and wire brush em and put em back. there is also a ground junction there on the fenderwell screwed into it. take it lose and clean them to.

Craby, it still could be that the ignition switch is ****ed up inside, and not making contact in the correct position where it should be.
Tommy, the part you put the key into is the lock, and the lock turns a separate switch inside the column.
What you need to do is get a meter or test light and check ignition power under the hood with the switch in the run position, and at the starter with the key in the start position.

Some one told me that the column i got is junk and that the "bar" in side probably borke and jumped teeth im just going to togle switch it todat and then by another column when i get the money
After rereading what I put, I may have misled you with my switch description. The switch itself isn't located directly under the lock mechanism. The lock moves a rod that slides up and down the steering column to activate the switch. The switch is screwed to the steering column, about half way down. You need to unbolt the column from the dash and lower it down to get to the switch. It's possible that the switch just came loose and is sliding up and down some when you turn the key. That would cause the switch to not go into the correct position when it's supposed to.
