I need to know a few things.
Do I need to remove the torque converter bolts inorder to get the engine apart from the transmission?
I heard there is a special tool for disconnecting my fuel lines.
What is the name of this tool?

Thanks,

its a good idea to. if u dont the converter will pull out of the trans and dump a mess of trans fluid all over the place. yes there are plastic tools to disconnect the fuel lines. dont cost much and can get them at the parts store. just ask for a camaro fuel line tool. should be needing one each for 3/8th and 5/16 connectors.

Yes, it is very possible to remove the engine from the top side. I frequently take my 406 CI V8 out of my Camaro. Most of the other guys have you covered on removing the engine, but if money is a problem, find someone to borrow the engine hoist from or rent it from a local equipment rental. I'm not sure where you live, but they are everywhere in my area and only cost about $25 a day. Also, you may want to use an engine leveler, which will allow you to tip the front of the engine up and the back down, while pulling the engine. I would suggest removing all accessories from the front of the engine, transmission, radiator, hood and maybe even the intake equipment. When I pull the 406, I use three ANCRA motorcycle tie downs across the top of the engine. I secure the tie down hooks to the header bolt holes with grade 5 hardware. I then loop the tie downs through the leveler. This allows me to have multiple angles of attack when removing the engine. I simply adjust the engine leveler and tie downs, based on my needs throughout the removal process. I paid $39.95 for the engine leveler at Pep Boys Auto. Any large chain auto store will have one, or Summit/Jegs.
