Hey, looking to replace the EGR Valve on my '95 LT1 and was wondering where it is located and if I would be able to do it myself? The "service engine" light comes on every once in awhile and after getting it looked at, we believe it has something to do with the EGR. Thanks for the help.

 

its on the back of the intake manifold.Its kinda a pain to get to,but its definetaly doable

To be honest, I'm not sure the exact code that registered when I had the engine performance test done. I left it with a family mechanic over the week while it was getting some other work done and I didn't even think of asking for what the computer discovered. I was just happy to get my toy back. Bad call on my part there...

I am about 95% sure though that this is the original EGR valve and this LT1 has 123,000 on it. Still runs like a champ though.

 

Besides reaching the EGR Valve, is it fairly easy to replace then? Thanks for the help.

 

yes it is fairly easy to replace. two nuts and a vacumn hose. i went ahead and changed my intake gaskets ( leakin) so it was way easier to change with the intake out. lol fixed the front and back intake gasket leaks at the same time, also found that my intake was not torqued down and was suckin oil into the cylinders threw the lose gaskets.

 

So my last question (hopefully) with this EGR deal is, is it just a matter of undoing the two bolts that hold it on and pulling off the vacuum hose, cleaning it, and then putting it all back together? I know it needs a gasket too that I would replace, but is there anything I need to worry about? Does the hose just slide back on? Do the bolts need to be torqued down to a certain amount? You dont know what code it threw? I'm going to strongly doubt that the EGR valve is actually bad... More often than not there is something else going on that trips a code or suggests it is the EGR valve. If you take it out and it moves freely and there is no carbon build up around the seat then I would look elsewhere for your problem... Still not a bad idea to take it out and clean it though.

 

^^^yah the two write ups i read including the link posted hints to check 02 sensors. figured if the op read at least the one it would be a good learning deal.
