I guess one question would be, is the radio disabled internally or is it the computer or security system that keeps it from energizing?

thats a good question, but i think it`d be internally since it is only when you disconnect the battery is when it happens.

Hey Auto! Check this out. I am going to try it next time I am down at the shop. Just been searching around on google about the theftlock.

http://www.articlesbase.com/automoti...os-842374.html

Let me know if it works.

Google how to unlock theftlock camaro radio and several other readings are also available.

I believe the Dealer also has a Bypass code.

I have a found a few articles online, just search. If I pull one up, I'll post a link.

Are you talking about the key fobs? I think I might have misunderstood. Now I think I get it. You are wanting to program your fobs but you need to ensure that theftlock is not turned on for the radio before pulling the fuse for the radio.

Auto, this process is what is in the owners manual for a 96. It is how to disable it but you have to have the secret code.
1. turn key on
2. turn radio off
3.Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold them down until SEC shows on the display
4. Press SET and 000 will appear on the display
5 Press SCAN to make the first digit of your code appear
6. Press the SEEK right or left arrow to make the second and third digits of your code appear
7. Press AM-FM and 000 will appear on the display again, now you are ready to enter the last three digits of your code.
8. Enter the last 3 digits of your code. the display will show the numbers as entered.
9. Press AM- FM after you have confirmed that the cood matches the secret code you have written down. The display will show ---, indicating that the radio is no longer secured.

For verification,
Press SEEK right or left arrow to make the second and third digit of your code appear
Press AM FM and 000 will appear on the display
Press SCAN to make the forth digit appear
Press SEEk right or left arrow to make the last 2 digits of your code appear
Press AM FM and REP will appear on the display for 5 seconds and then 000 will appear.
If SEC is displayed on the radio it is secure. If --- is displayed, the radio is unsecure.
