keys

i just got a 87 rs but the kid i got it from lost the key an it's a chipped one but i got a colum out of a 86 iroc with no chipped key if i swapp the colums outs will it be ok? thanks

just try swapping the ignition instead of the whole column, should work though.

You need the chip to tell the VATS module that you have the proper key. By replacing the lock with one that does not read the chip, the VATS module will not signal the ECM that all is OK, and the ECM will not allow the starter to engage and shut off the fuel. However you can bypass the chip by strapping a proper value resistor across the leads going from the ignition lock to the VATS module.

Yes he is right, or u can take it to a dealor ship and get the vats code check, the have a macine that they can put into yr ignition and it will tell them the code, the code is 2-16
