Default Burning plastic??

Ok so the other day i was going with a freind down a rual road to our weekly car show in my Z28 camaro 1987 IROC-Z
anyway down the rual road (after the car got to normal operating temp)
i floored it to have a little fun anyway we got up to speed quite quickly 25 to about 90 when i hit around 90 i noticed a strong burning plastic smell (that only happens when i floor it) so we pulled over poped the hood all the fluids where normal no melted plastic on anything,
i was wondering if it could be a internal dash coverd problem? seeing as that it had to come out of my vents.
although the smell went away right after i slowed down,
a freind suggested that it could be my new brakes but i doubt that smell would come through my vents,
any and all help is greatly appreciated!

theres only 3 things that smell like burning plastic in a car: Melting wires (covers), new brakes, or a tearing belt. Ans yes, the new brake smell can come through your vents, just like oil and tranny leaks that hit the exhaust system and smoke. Your car will fill up like a gas chamber. Don't worry, you'll be fine
