91 camaro rs extremely high rpms
My camaro and I have been having a rough time lately. It just died when I was driving one day. I've gotten a new fuel pump, i needed a new fuel cylinder, new spark plugs, and it turns out my computer was fried. It finally turns and is running again, but I'm still have a few problems. The RPMs areoff the chart, ideling at like 4000, and when i would go 50 mph rpm's would be 5000, 60 mph/rpm's 6000...and so on. When I first started it again it was idelingat almost 7000, then it dropped to like 4000/5000. but when i acelerate the rpms soar, i get to like 60mphs and my rpms shoot up past 7000, and my rmps only go to 7000! It does feel like it is running a little rough but not like the rpms should be that high. I took it to my mechaninc but i think he's sick of it and he said it's fine, but I don't believe him. There's also kind of like a screeching sound and I think that might just be me needing a new belt. I don't know much about cars so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
I'm quessing your tach is giving the incorrect rpm of your engine and probably needs to be replaced. I had the same problem but found a decent used one but it still reads a couple of hundreds off. Or you can install an aftermarket tach. Unless your tach is indeed correct then you've got to see a mech asap.
theres no way ur engine is actually running that high. 7000 rpm is pretty damn high for any stock camaro engine. you could hear if it was actually that high. its probly just a bad tach.
