my camaro bogs down at high speeds/rpms pls help
hey whats up im new to this forum. i have a 76 camaro with a 327 small block, big cam, 350 heads, edelbrock victory jr intake, and a edelbrock 600 4 barrel carb. it seems to run great, when im driving it like a lil girl. but then when i get on it it will get up to about 3000 rpms and then just bog down and cut in and out and what not. i have NO idea whatsoever could be wrong. my carb is brand new outta the box. i also have a vaccum cannister from comp cams for the brakes.

Could be a fuel delivery problem, as when the rpm's go up a restriction will be really noticeable. Remove your fuel line, pull the ignition wire, and stick the fuel line into a milk jug. Have someone crank the engine and see if you're getting plenty of fuel to the carb. Make sure the 12 v. wire to the coil is disconnected, or a spark could ignite the gas fumes!
If this shows no sign of a problem, then you'll need to check the float level in that new Edelbroke carb. They could have set it too low at the factory, which would cause the fuel level to be so low as to run out of gas.

In addition to that, what type of fuel filter are you using, and is it old (possibly clogged) or new?
And....even if your fuel pump checks out OK while you're cranking the engine over, it still could be worn out and not able to keep up with more fuel demand as the rpm's get higher.

Very good point! The fuel pump rod can also be worn and not moving the pump actuator arm enough to give proper fuel delivery. I had a 1957 Chev that I totally rebuilt and it constantly ran out of gas when really getting into it. I put a new fuel pump on it and it ran great for about a month, then wore just enough to start again. I finally had a smart friend tell me to change the rod that runs off the cam lobe, and when I did it never gave me trouble again.
