Default HELP! Transmission bounce and loud banging sound

I don't know what's loose but when I drive normal in 1, 2, or 3 gear and punch it or do a hard shift it bounces and makes a loud clicking sound like its hitting something? I was told to buy a cross member bar would this fix it?

It's a stock 305 tbi 5 speed 86 iroc.

You're describing a torn transmission mount. That allows the torque arm from the rearend, which is also attached to the trans, to lift rear of the trans and make it hit the tunnel.

do you have a floor jack and jack stands?

do you have hand tools?

do you have a safe place in which to work?

to me, replacing a tranny mount is no big deal but to the next guy they might be intimidated so much of your questions can only be answered subjectively.

If you have a small block of wood in addition to the above tools mentioned, the ability to undo about 5 bolts, then go for it.

Total time needed including 30 minutes round trip to/from parts store and also including jacking up the car, putting away tools, washing your hands is about 90 minutes. I am not allowing time for replying to text messages or updating Facebook.

Yeah I have all that. And people to help me.thanks a lot!
I just needed a little help diagnosing the problem and finding out whether it was a serious fix or not. Thank a lot man. I'm a visual learner so I guess I could look up a couple videos on YouTube and get an idea of what to do. Also my brother and dad are very good with cars and could probobaly help me get this done in no time.

Put a floor jack under the trans, and a 2x4 or 2x6 on the jack to span the pan (so you don't dent it).
Slowly jack up the trans and keep an eye on the mount. If the mount is split, the upper and lower portions will part ways.

Yes that sounds like a blown transmission mount.
