changing from auto to stick
all of my cars are auto and i want a stick bad so with this build of my 70 camaro it started as a 350 sb backed by a 350 turbo i want to switch to a 454 bb that has around 550 hp that i have already and 5 speed manual i am under 6500 for the build so far and dont want to break the bank so what is the best and most cost effective way to achieve this goal please help
Better hope it's one of these: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CMG-TCET5009/ or she's gonna blow!!!
sorry yesterday was on kid duty yes i have my engine already i dont have the tranny im not sure what one to go with i have looked at tons of them i have been told that i should go order one from summit or other online sites but spending 4000 isnt what i want to do if i can help it i have been told to hit the junk yard pirate all the parts i need and have one built but not sure that will work so my question really becomes is there a cheaper way that is worth doing and reliable because i know you get want you pay for or am i just going to have to blow the budget and pony up
Here, save these for next time: . . . . . . .
A stock T5 that you're gonna find in a boneyard isn't going to hold up to the 454. Best to cough up a few bucks more now and get something that'll last. Having to constantly replace a broken weaker unit will add up real quick.

M-22 4speed and factory upgraded T-56 6speed (“transilla”) only stock manual transmission I am aware of that was designed for a car and will hold that that much torque. The M-22 is an ultra rare muscle car era transmission used with the 427 and some 396 cars back in the day. The upgraded T-56 was put in some Vetts and Mustangs all late models. You can buy a used T-56 and upgrade it but you’re going to have 3k in that by the time you done.
As Camaro 69 said the T5 cannot handle the torque of any big block. Us Camaro guys know that in the late 80’s you could get a 305 with a 5 speed (t-5) and the 350 (240 HP) exceeded the limits of the T5. The case itself is a weak spot. You can upgrade it some but not enough to handle even a 350 HP big block. They just make too much torque.
The link Camaro 69 post just may be the most economical way to get a 5 speed that will work. Or finding someone selling the used version of that trans.
