i did the conversion on my ls1 camaro, after it was all said and done i spent about 1300, youll need a t56 tranny, unless your putting big power down i would just get a stock clutch, and youll need to get a new rearend, i know on mine i had 273's and i changed to the normal 342's for a 6 speed. just my .02..

my friend and i put the tranny in ourselves, so i wouldnt know how much labor would be...but i would be willing to bet it would be right around 1500...i put a b&m short throw shifter in mine, but search around and find out what you would want to get...

$1500 is way on the cheap end. The best bet is to find a person willing to swap, drag race guys tend to favor the auto, so maybe you can work out a deal.

it may be cheep, i dunno, when i bought my tranny i got it off ebay for 600 with 50k on it, and i bought a brand new zo6 clutch on ebay for 300, and my rearend for 400, so i guess i just found some really good deals...they are out there, you just gotta be searchin all through ebay or the forums, etc..

any will work from a camaro or firebird, but make sure you get the right year...93-97, 98-2002, if im not mistaken i think the bellhousing bolts are a little different in those years

Get this monthth's, May 2007, issue of "GM High-Tech Performance". They have a 11-12 page article on how to go about doing what you want to do. Tons of pictures and parts list.
