Default manual trans question

Hey I got a 80 Camaro T-top with a auto an I am looking to swap it out for a manual trans. I am looking at going with a 5 speed manual from a late 80's IROC. The car will have a 305 or 350 in it which manual trans would be a good one to go with to increase MPG that does not have any computer setup in it?

Manual transmission with a computer setup in it? The T5 is only 5 speed put in a Camaro. The swap is very doable but if not a simple bolt in. Your going to have to do a lot of research.

Here are the areas that will need research:
Clutch linkage, 2nd gens where mechanical, 3 gen 5 speed are hydraulic.

Bell housing: 3rd bellhousing rotates the transmission 15 degs. If you use a T5 tranny from a camaro you will need to use this type of bell housing to your shifter will be off 15 deg.

Cross member. I think you will have make or modify one.

Keep in mind the T5 Tranny is not a strong transmission. GM never offered the t5 trany with the 350. The late 80's 350 had to much torque the t5 could not handle it.

I am looking for a manual trans with no computer setup at all. I am putting this in a 80 Camaro with a 305. I am looking for a 5 speed manual trans for MPG. What would be a good trans to go with that has no computer setup at all an would work with a non computer 305 or 350? The engine will have a carb on it an it will be used for a daily driver nothing more than that.

Manual transmission don't hook up to the computer. They are manual. There are some 6 speed that have a skip shift and I think that is controled by the computer but none of the 5 speeds do. If they did you just disconnect it. The reason there are manual and automatic computers is because the manuals do not have all the plugs for the tranny. The only thing a newer transmission would have is a speed sensor instead of a speedometer cable hook up. As long as you stick with the 305 then the T5 is a good pick. Your just going to have to figure out a lot of the details. T5's are pretty much the same 84-2002. Remember you will need the bell housing from a 305 and I think if you get 88-back it is already setup for Speedo cable.

You will need a pedel set from a 2nd gen. You will have to fad up the parts to hook the pedel to the hydralic master cylinder. Once you get it bolted up you will need to cut your floor in the right spot to let the shifter come up through the floor.
