Default 4th gen V6 manual trans question

I have an 88 (3rd gen)v6 with a worn out 5spd trans. I quy is selling a standard trans from a 96(4th gen)v6. I'm not sure what engine size it is.Will the 96 V6 trans bolt up to my 88 2.8? Are there any lenth issues? How can I convert the 96 speed sensor trans to run my manual speedo drive on my 88? Thanks for any response.

Default RE: 4th gen V6 manual trans question

Should be the same bellhousing bolt pattern, so the 4th gen v6 trans should at least bolt to the engine (88 I'm assuming a 2.8, in that case the trans from the 3.4 will definitely bolt up to your block. I am reasonably certain that the 3800 shares the same bolt pattern.) I couldn't say if it would fit in the car itself though. Somebody else may be able to chime in for that, or check in the 3rd gen section of the forum and see if anyone else has done it.
