Yes, what you are saying makes sense. He told me that for a triple pass you need a good pump as well. Also recommended an engine driven pump and not an electric one.

Usually 30GPM for a mechanical pump. I want to say I've seen electric upwards of 60. But I have no idea if thats free flow or through the specific engine (SBC in this case) plus a rad. But if there were a bigger restriction. Minute as it may be its probably the fact that water is heavy by volume. So more water weighs more. I agree if the restriction rises then I would want mechanical too. Vall as you and i both know if you increase the load on a motor you also increase its amp draw. That in my mind is why they said to go that way.

I would never use an electric pump on a street driven rod. They just don't have the long term reliability of a mechanical pump. I'd hate to have a pump fail and lose an engine.

When you increase the load on an electrical motor, you will increase the back EMF as well increasing the current. More load = more need = more current (voltage is constant in our situation more or less)

So you both suggest a mechanical pump has better reliability than an electric one? What brands there are? All pumps are high volume?

No all pumps are not high flow or high volume. Lots of brands to choose from, and I would just stick with a name brand. I don't think which brand you purchase is as important as just getting a good brand. I had a Weiand on my 427, and also on my 464 in the Falcon. Never had trouble with them, and they are under $100.
Hey, thanks for the electrical education; that stuff confuses me! After 35 years of doing electrical, I forgot it all when I retired 3 yrs. ago!

That is why I like this forum, because everyone can share the information and learn from each others. Work electrical every day. For me electrical is no problem. The problem is when it comes to engines but with the help of people in this forum I feel that I am improving in my knowledge.

This 572 is a challenging project for me and looking forward to do my best out of it. Will be a nice car when I finish it (I hope)

It doesn't come with a pump already on it? I would simply request to have them put what ever you need on. Then if it fails it on them.

Vall you don't have the ohms law triangle tatooed on your forearm? I thought all sparky's did that.
