smog gurus please help
Thanks Guys, brownstone, you have the bracket too, if so, let me know how you want to be payed, if no bracket maybe i'll hit up potterboy, and help him to remove his (LOL) I know the car will need the evap can, egr valve, pvc valve, and vac advance, im not sure about the thermastatic air cleaner, or the air pump. most the cops around here are cool too, but there are those buttheads that can ruin your day, I just sold a pro street vega, and got pulled over 3 times just so they could see the car, had one cop knock on my door and wanted to see the car he heard about, these guys were way cool, then there was that one that was going to impound it, because it had N.O.S., lucky for me my neighbor, ( who is also a cop ) rolled up, and got me cut loose. I know what the law is, and just want to be ready, if i get into trouble. thanks again T.
Ive imported a lot of cars from outta state, if its 75 and older, you dont need any emissions crap. just take the car and title to dmv, transfer it over and they will come out and check 2 vins to verify that its the right car and your on your way. hell, just did it 3 days ago with a 70 chevelle. none of that stuff is needed. theres no inspections in california like there is in many other states
I'm no guru either but I do live in California and I own 73 Camaro. From my experience, cops rarely, if ever check to see under the hood if you have an old muscle car. I do have friends who have been checked by cops, but only because they were driving imports with some very noticeable modifications.
ya, imports are getting checked like crazy, but they are smog cars. only time ive ever been checked by a cop is when i had my 70 chevelle SS and he just loved the car. i told him he could take it for a test drive if he cleared a ticket for me lol, he said they dont have the power for that.
Thanks for the reply guys, before buying the car, i already knew this, I didn't buy it for the blown motor, I will be keeping it, and playing with it, but if you've ever had a blown car, it gets old. I want to drive this car alot, and just run the blower when im in the mood, any cop in any city, can pull you over, and request to see your engine, and a car like this screams illegal, if you dont have the factory installed equipment( emission wise ) you can be cited, and run through hell. some other guys on these forums know what im talking about, so just to be on the safe side, i would like to know exactly what i need, so i can be ready if this becomes a problem, not what a 71 from ca had, but a 73 fed car, and how do i prove its a fed car. thanks guys T.
to answer your question on how to prove it's a fed car that falls under federal regulations is based on where the car was sold. If it was originally sold outside of california then it's under federal regs. Most likely your 73 only had a charcoal cannister and not much else. As long as your camaro was born with a v8 then not much to worry about. Cops will only judge on how well you drive!
