Default This is for all you Engine Building Gurus

Im just doing the finishing touches on my 355. i got vortec heads w /1.94 1.60 vlaes with LTI springs to accomadate my 509.528 rollercam. its has roller lifters, 10.3:1 compression pistons a scat crank and rods edelbrock performer air gap intake for vortec heads. It is a complete roller engine it gots the crane gold roller rockers. The piston are hypereutectic. the Carb is a Holley 750 double pumper.

Will i be able to spray Nitrous to my engine. maybe a 100 shot? Or is the compression to high? Will the pistons hold?

I got another question i was wondering can i reuse the stock pushrod length with the new cam and rocker arms. cause when i look in other magazines for ordering the rods it says oem roller or +.50 +.100 my undrstanding with the pushrods you will have to go shorter right.

This is my first engine build andi did alot of research. but i heard alot of different opinions

a factory roller cam use's different pushrods, and if you buy a aftermarket roller cam the cam manufacture should specify if you have to use different pushrods. i have sprayed a bone stock engine with cast pistons with a 100hp shot of oxide with no failures. i have seen stock engines running 140hp shot without problems. your pistons are still a cast piston, but they are stronger than stock style piston , so you should have no problem with a 125-150 hp shot. aslong as it is a wet system and not dry , if you run a dry system you may lean out and burn a piston.

even with high compression. I know its a lil risky when you up the compression and spray. i heard many stories of people burning up their pistons because they didnt go forged. i know forged can hold a lot better than cast. as for the roller cam my blockl originaklly came with a roller cam and i ordered the cam according to the block. but im stumped on the pushrods. i wouldn't mind spraying a 100 shot to see what my lil bad boy can do. i think im gonna do it.

alot of people run 100 shot on bone stock LT1's , i work with a guy that has a 95 LT1 and he has a 125 shot on his and has never had any problems. the thing you may find is you may not gain 100hp with a 100hp shot, the more efficent thanengine is the less you gain, generally a stock will gain more power than a modded engine with the same size jets because a stock engine is less efficent
