'67 Camaro Big Block
Just bought a very nice '67 SS with a big block and have a couple questions. The motor has roller rockers requiring tall valve covers. The wiper motor cannot be mounted due to the tall covers, any experience in getting around this? Also, the car has 3.93 gearing in the rearend and turns about 3k at 55 mph. Would I benefit from a 700R4 or should I just change the rearend. The car has a beefed up turbo 350 presently. Thanks!!
i agree. keep the th350. a big block would kill a 700r4 quickly. i have a 69 with a BBC (assuming the motors are in the same location) before i took the wiper motor out, it all fit together and i have roller rockers but the valve covers aren't very tall. they are moroso's.
congratulations on your new toy. i don't know much about the big block clearence problem but i would like to suggest a Gear Vendor's overdrive unit. with this bolt on you can keep the bullet proof TH350 and still run it on the highway with the 3.93:1 final gear ratio. i believe you will have to cut your driveshaft or buy a new one, but it won't be all that big of a deal and would be a pretty cool modification. i have seen a few Year One restored first gen camaros use these units.
Depends what kind of driving your going to do and your budget, if your going to drive it alot I would go with an overdrive transmission. Theres companies out there making beefed up overdrive trannys. Although they are not cheap. As for the wiper motor they sell some slim wiper motors for clearance problems. Unfortunately I dont remember the manufacture.
