Default 69 camaro big block, going to small block

Hey guys, recently I picked up a 69. I am currently redoing it and it has an older 454 out of a mid 80's truck or something, nothing special and its old. I have a 383 stroker I was thinkin of putting into the car. It has a th-350 attached currently to it that I would like to use. What all do I have to swap back to use the small block? I think the car was a small block car originally but not sure. Thanks for any help!

I believe all you need are small block motor mounts.

The best way to tell if the car was originally a big block car; the heater hoses connect to the center of the heater box on the firewall.
On small blocks; the heater hoses connect on the drivers side of the heater box.

Here's a few things I can think of, frame mounts, motor mounts (as stated above), front coil springs, hoses, of couse headers and maybe the exhaust.

If you were planning to use the pulleys off of the big block, they might not work for you and you'll need the proper small block pulleys.

Ok, thanks! The 383 I have was last installed in a 1985 iroc Camaro. Do you guys know if those mounts were the same on the engine side at least? Also, I figured the front springs would need to be changed and what about the transmission cross member? Thanks again!

The T-350 and crossmember should be the same, but I don't think the motor mounts will work.

I just did a search on Summit and they were different between the two years.

The big block cars had different engine frame brackets that rocked the engine over to the right about an inch, and forward (away from the firewall) almost the same amount. The trans mount point on the crossmember is moved over towards the passenger side to match the amount the engine is moved to keep the engine/trans centerline going straight back. Without doing that, you'd eat up your u-joints.
But, was your big block conversion done the "factory" way? We don't know that, so can't tell you what, if anything, you need to change. There are height/width measurement differences between the mount brackets, so if you get those numbers, we may be able to steer you further.

This is true! I will get in the garage tomorrow night and measure up the engine mounts.

Just checked, I lined up the center rib on my header panel with the rib on my wiper cowl and the air cleaner wingnut is directly in line with it.. Also on the passenger mount, the center of the bolt is about 1 3/4" off of the frame. The drivers side mount seems to be lower than the passenger mount? The bolt itself is closer to the frame and Also the mount to the frame has that little cutout and the drivers side is definitely smaller than the passenger.. Thanks for any help!

See if this info helps to make sense of what you have: Camaro Engine

Quick question, why not just keep the 454 in there and if it's old, just rebuild it instead of using the 383?
