New old project-1946 Austin gasser
Thanks! I'm hoping it works as good as it looks! I rarely see cross rams on street cars, and I've always loved them. So the chance to get one and have something really different under the hood was the driving force in choosing it.
No word on the new engine yet. I hope they call soon!

Engine shop called mid morning, so I ran down and got the engine! Not much to see yet, as it's bagged and shrink wrapped. Bored .030, and .010-.010 on the crank. Ended up at 10:1 CR, and cam specs are 284/288 .474/.477" 112 lsa.

Finished the intake polishing after another 4 hours of going back over previous polishing that showed defects still. Had to block out some bad stuff from factory grinding, and then re-polish. I'm quitting regardless; this is too much like work!

Thanks Chuck! My fingers and shoulders are sore! I did most of the rough removal with my high speed grinder and Roloc discs, but they can create other issues that show up while polishing. I had to hand block sand the flat ends and open areas on top, as it was the only way to get a good finish for polishing. It literally was painful, but it does look better than as cast. I left the underside, and recesses as cast, as most the underside can't be seen with the valve covers blocking that view. The recesses I don't care about anyway. Actually at this point I don't care about anything that deals with polishing!
I think they'll be so close nobody will be able to see. I'm wondering myself how I'll get to the intake bolts, even with the valve covers off! Looks like a box or open end wrench is the only thing that will fit under there!
I sure hope so, as I'm not wanting to change if I don't have to. There appears to be enough clearance, as the angles look to follow parallel to the valve cover, not over it.
Spent the day at the Roadster show, but when I got home I had a reply from Holley about carbs. I want to go to 600cfm vacuum secondary carbs on the Austin, and Holley made me a deal that was too good to pass up! Two brand new warranty returned carbs that are fully checked and still have the new warranty for under $200 ea., including shipping to me!
They said they get carbs back that people return for warranty, and often there's nothing wrong. Customers either tweak adjustments, or have fuel pressure problems with electric pumps, etc. They put them on their flow bench, reset the settings, and they check to see nothing has been changed internally. Then the box them back up and sell them as "refurbished" for big discounts. Summit sells the same carb for $329 ea., so I'm saving over $130 per carb!
