1972 RS SS
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the forum and would like some help from the the members here. I recently went on a search for my old 72 RS SS which I sold in 1985. Amazingly the car still exists, however it has not been on the road for a few years. I spoke to the current owner on the phone and am planing to go see it this weekend. Apparantly the body is pretty rough at this point, from what he indicated on the phone, however the drivetrain is supposedly OK. I have been throught the mania of doing a ground up on a 69 Mach 1 Cobra Jet ( Hope I can be forgiven by Camaro guys ) so I understand what is involved in both time and money. In the case of the CJ those that follow the prices know that this was a worthwhile investment, although I didn't know that when it stated 13 years ago..
The Camaro obviously has special meaning as I owned this particular car for about 5 years before kids etc took precedent in my life.
This particular Camaro is a numbers matching 72 RS SS with a 350 4 speed and air.
My question really relates to the rarety of the car. I've done some research and haven't come across many on the web, which obviously relates to the strike in 1972. I know how fast the Gen 1 cars are moving. Are the Gen 2 cars getting more popular as well.
As I said, I have been down this road before so my concern is can you stay reasonably protected on this investment if I decide that there is hope for revival. I assume parts are no problem through suppliers like NPD, but are there any special items which can be tough to find?
Obviously I've already decided that I want my car back, however I would appreciate input from the members of this forum, because you guys are the experts. I belong to the CJ forum and if this group is in any way similar, there are a lot of helpfull folks out there who will not mind sharing information and an opinion.
