im looking into buying my friends 1972 ss and i have owned many fast cars in my day. so instead of doing the same thing every body else is doing throw a big block under the hood and going 11sec in a 1/4 mile. im thinking a 2jz powered my friend bought it of the supra forum it has a 86mm turbo and was on a engine dynoed at 780hp on 89* 846hp on 93* and 1354hp on c16* and only 35lbs of boost this turbo can go up to 51lbs of boost so this is a 1700hp motor of course i have a fully built 6speed to back it up with 3.55 gears or 3.73. so is it possible to put this im a camaro. any help much appreciated.

 

i suppose you could put anything in a camaro with enough money and fabrication but I wouldn't. If you wanna go somewhat different then just put in a LS7 or LS9

I like supra's n all, but tokyo drift was a movie! Just kidding. Trust me you dont even wanna start with all the fabrication and wiring that you would have to do to drop a 2jz in a camaro. They are great engines and all and are one of the best factory built engines ever but it would be a pai to put in a camaro. Id save it for a 240 or a 4th gen supra.

I take NOTHING from the 2jz. I've seen some real quick cars. But if a Camaro came buzzing though here with the distinct smell of rice cooking from the tail pipe. We would steal it, strip it, and leave a brick on the gas pedal until it blew. Then park it right back where we got it from.

Do it.
Prove the haters wrong and try something original. If that motor is built that extreme, and properly, it should be all stand alone engine management. With a stick behind it wiring shouldn't be a massive issue. You need to build mounts to hold it in there. Fitment shouldn't be an issue, the J is a big motor, but shouldn't be hard to fit with that picnic table of a hood you have. There's people putting JZ into ae86 corolla, you can make it fit.
All that being said, you're talking a lot of money or a lot of skill. If you've one or the other, do the lo mein drivetrain.

 

If you've got 10 or 20 grand to burn do it, if it'd get 30 mpg I'd do it but personally I'd go with an ls for the same or less amount of work.

 

well the projects off til i find another 2nd gen my dumb *** friend scraped it. thinking he would get more cause i offered him $750 for the shell and fame and he got $285 from the scrap yard and it was to late the claw machine had its claws threw the windows so i have to find a clean project car now. some people have no common sense i would of paid $2,000 for it it had only a couple specs of rust on the fenders being a new jersey car. some people i guess don't study before they jump the gun. well if any of you guys have a project car for sale near 07827 Montague NJ North NJ hit me up.
