would tranny be able to handle..?

nobody can assure you that the tranny will hold up
the question that has not been posed to you, and must be is
how will you drive the vehicle?
If you will always feather the throttle then it will be fine
if you like to hit it, be it from the dig, while rolling etc then the tranny will eventually go south on you.
stock rebuild- fine until more power was added to the engine
hammering it made tranny go buh bye
street/strip rebuild- running fine

The LT1, for a small block makes a heap of low end torque. With tune,CAI, LT's, ORY, and 1.6 rockers, after being pounded enough, my stock rebuilt tranny grenaded. I've rebuilt the rear end and don't run sticky tires so my 10 bolt is doing just fine.
You can drive for a while but save up your pennies.. And when the tranny does go south, be sure to replace the rear main seal since the tranny is already out.
