What you need to be worried about is how much boost you are pushing. On a stock internal ls1 ive heard about 5 psi=max due to the relatively high factory compression ratio.

Yea, thats why im a little worried because the owner says it has the high output one and the only reason you would get is if you were running 9+ lbs of boost...well i hope its got forged internals, otherwise idk if im gonna get it.

Well damn haha. Then how come i always see a bunch of vids on youtube of engine exploding on the dyno and the guy says that he ran too much much boost? It is just because the motors are old and get run down or what? As far a buying the car, i think its spam on cars.com. I found an 04 cobra with the same mileage and same price as this s/c camaro and both of the descriptions were worded the exact same..."i got my husbands car in the divorce and as a woman i have no need for it"

Detonation is what kills an engine

Omg lol, i read about that when my friend and i were getting his car dyno tuned. Didnt it make like .5lbs of boost? lol. Its the same idea as those electric superchargers, which are pointless by the way. But anyways, thanks for the help.

You read wrong. It all comes down to the tune. If you are looking for a safe number then around 8 pounds is extremely conservative depending on compressor. Once you go past that your starting to push it but there are guys that have run 9-10 pounds for some time and lived but your tune better be spot on to run that. You also have those guys that push for that little bit extra by dropping 317 heads on to the 346 which helps drop the CR down a bit but your still only going to be able to push about 10-11 pounds.

Limiting factor here is detonation and the stock pistons/rods. The LS1 rods start to meet there match at around 550 horses but if you get any detonation before that point then you will probably brake the number 7 rod from the piston and its game over.

If your engine is in good shape the LS1 loves boost but its not cheap and you have to set it up right. You can very make 450 rwhp which is about 500 to the crank with no problem on a very safe tune. Any more then that you are going to start pushing her.
