Default Redline Problems?

Ok.. I got the car.. It has 73,000 miles on the new body and 15,000 or so on a new engine.. It IS an LT1.. I checked.. Now.. This has a Hypertech Programmer on it and the Shift Points were changed.. It also has an aftermarket Shift Kit.. Now.. this car shifts at like 6,000 RPM.. It is an automatic of course.. It says it redlines at 5700.. I took the shift points off and went by the book on 3:42 gear ratio's and set them up to where they should shift at 5700.. It shifted at 6000 still.. I then lowered it to where it should shift even lower than that.. It still shifts at 6000 rpm.. Is this bad? Will it blow my engine eventually.. What could be the problem.. Should I try returning it to stock settings and see what happens when it shifts? If anyone can help.. Much would be appreciated.. Also.. if i take the programmer off and it still shifts there.. Any advice?

The engine will tolerate 6000 RPM shifts as long as you don't give it a continuos diet. The rev limiter is probably set at 6000 RPM or valave float and/or lifter pump up is taking place. In any event, the sudden power loss allows the tranny to shift. Many times this problem is the result of an improperly adjusted transmission linkage. Adjust the linkage per the FSM & see what happens. The stock engine runs out of steam at around 5500 RPM and winding it past that point is a big waste of time.
You can also try the Shoebox site fo instructions http://shbox.com/trans/A4_trans_linkage.html

The other possibility is that the programmer is not doing what it is supposed to do. Try restoring everything back to stock.

Alright.. I took the programmer off and it still shifts at 6,000 RPM.. I ran it through once and since then I haven't.. From 1st to second it will throw you sideways, but still shifts at 6,000 RPM, when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd it shifts at 6,000 and then it feels like it is missing, not necessarily that, but just bogging down a bit.. But.. If I do not run it through and **** punch it at about 65 to where it does not downshift into 2nd it runs great, no bogging or anything.. only bogs after it has shifted at that high rpm...

I know this is bad.. How do I fix it? Should I take it to the shop? I want it to shift normally.. at 5700 or 5600 or even 5500, either is great.. How do I go about doing it?

Have you checked the shifter linkage? It will cause your problem even if just slightly off.

I will try my best.. Just a hypothetical question.. If that is not my problem.. how would I fix the valves floating and get it shifting correctly?

This sounds like a similar problem I had. I ended up taking mine to a reputale transmission shop and discovered that my automatic was fried. One of the pistons inside had cracked, and many of my gears where extremely worn and smoked. After rebuilding it, with racing in mind, I have not had that problem again.

Heres a link to the trans I had it modeled off of, http://www.transmissioncenter.net/highperf700r4.htm

Try using another tachometer.
