New 1996 ss looking for options
Looks like water got in the oil. How does the rest look?
Also, out of curiosity, what makes you sure it's an SS. That seemed really low for an SS, especially since it's a '96 and a lot of people don't even know there was an SS in '96.

The issue is the antifreeze, antifreeze is fine under 20 PSI of pressure and if you mix it with oil and take it up to 30 PSI it causes a chemical reaction that forms a acid. The acid melts the babit off the bearings. To repair the motor everything needs torn down all bearing need replaced the lifters are done and everything that has oil passing through it needs dipped in a strong acid to be sure there is none of the melted babit in there. It is cheaper to buy a Reman motor or even to find a good lower miles motor and rebuild that then to deal with a motor that has had coolant in the oil.
In the future ANYTIME you buy a used car that does not come with a warranty get it checked out by a trusted mechanic. You are going to spend $50-100. In many cases even on a nicer car the mechanic will point out things and you can use to get the price a little lower and, like in this case, he may tell you to walk away.
If it is a real SS the price is not that bad and the car is worth fixing. I think the hood is worth almost half what you paid for the car. The only real question is it worth YOU fixing or do you pass it to the next guy.

Does all the oil that you drained from the engine look like that too? Oil floats on top of water/coolant, so if it was left to settle you could see what's the first thing (and how much) to come out of the drain plug on the oil pan. I have a feeling you instead probably ran the engine, then drained the oil pretty much right away?
No it was sitting over night and all of it looked like that. I'm thinking about buying a used engine and building it myself then dropping it in. I really like this car and I don't really wanna get rid of it. Does anyone know where I can buy a used engine from? Or a rebuilt one for a reasonable price? I don't want a ton of power I just want this car running so a rebuilt stock motor would be fine too
