Msd everything won't start
#14
Car has started. The 4th coil did it. The previous owner had put two diff msd coils on it and and accel high output coil. That coil lasted about a month. Just put a brand new cheap coil on and the car started. Any idea as to what would cause it to burn up coils.

usually the msd coil burning up stock opti's. make sure the pink wire does not have power when the key is off. a plug wire not releasing its spark to a ground can mess things up. bad plug wires can drain the power making the coil work harder to do its job.

The coil isn't hooked up to the factory harness is it, the MSD box should now be powering the coil. That would be the problem if it's not hooked up right. From MSD box, orange wire to the original pink wire, black wire to the other wire(s).

The coil is now hooked up from the GM plugins. I removed the box when I removed the bad msd coil. Everything seems to be good now. Just wondering what would have caused the car to go through 3 coils. Two msd and one accel high output. The msd ignition box was only on the car for the drive home basically. The other coils still spark but don't have enough to start the car. The previous owner told me he would get a coil it would work for a few drives then stop working but still put out spark. Maybe just bad luck with coil choices.
