Default ignition switch problem

When I start my '97 Z28, the car dies unless I hold the ignition switch in place. Not far enough to engage the starter, but not all the way back to the neutral position. As soon as I release the switch it shuts off. Any ideas? New key? Ignition switch?

I had that same problem in my old jeep, you would have to hold the key like 2/3 forward just to have it stay on. My steering column had busted, so i needed a new ignition module. Probably the same scenario, except yours probably just got fried. Well under $300 part. Located either on the inside of the firewall, or the steering column.
