Default ignition switch rod

I'm replacing the ignition switch on the steering column.

When I try to install the new switch the actuator rod seems to be facing the wrong direction. The bent end of the rod faces up, and the slot it goes into is on the side of the switch.

The switch matches to old switch, so I think it's the right one.

How do I get this rod into the side of the switch? I don't think I should have to bend the rod. I should have paid more attention when taking the old switch out!

A little slow to respond to your question but if you have a Chassis Service Manual it shows the column diagram on page 9-15 for a non-tilt column. If you don''t have one I highly recommend getting one. I'm sure there's a pic posted somewhere you can access. If not, send me a pm and I'll send one to you.
