Default I need some hep on selecting a cam

I have a 97 Z28, I have installed a few bolt-ons, mostly exhaust, I want a cam to put in my car that that has a noticable power increase over stock but still pretty streetable. What kind of power increase can I get by using the LT4 hot cam kit with 1.6 ratio rockers and is it worth the money or should I buy an aftermarket style and if I do What kind of specs should I run. I do not have any head work done, I have Hooker long tubes, flowmaster exhaust, aftermarket K N air fiter system and thats it. Also what other bolt ons do you recommend. also I need to have my computer programmed for the new specs and also have the AIR and EGR deleted, anyone know someplace I can send it to? Thanks For the help

a aftermarket cam will help, but its better to do heads and cam at the same time.they will both benefit from each other.a lt4 cam is just a little more mild from stock.and you do need to get your car tuned after this or it will run and idle bad.

comp cams cc503 is a very nice cam for street use and will add some pep as well. with the cam and rockers, you're going to need springs, and hardened pushrods as well. and depending if you go non self aligning rockers or self aligning, you might need guideplates as well. like alih said though, heads and cam at the same time would be a lot more beneficial to you, but if your budget doesn't allow it then a cam is always good. and pcmforless.com and madz28.com are 2 good computer tuners

holy hell!!!! someone asking this question who already has the base mods done for once!??!?! we dont get that here much....

i agree with both these guys. the hotcam isnt a bad way to go at all, but there are some custom grinds that will allow you to finetune the sort of power u want.

thanks for the help guys. My budget is pretty minimum so heads are out of the question, but when I do go to put heads on, anyone know of a good company? my friend mentioned a set of AFR's. Is that a trusted name? and if so what specs should I go with, I never intend on supercharging or using nitrous and again I want a street machine with some ***** but I don't want to over do it.

well id go with AFR or Trickflow.you will want to get heads that will match the cam you are getting, for best results.

i wouldn't buy aftermarket and won't be. i'd get my stock ones ported. for what you say your plan is, ported stockers will be MORE than sufficient. you can visit lloyd elliotts site at www.elliottsportworks.com. i promise if you call him and tell him your plan, he can get you a great cam for your needs and have it fit well with your future plan of heads if you do decide to go that route. he will get my business

Lloyd Elliot does a great job with porting the stock heads, and as I've stated before www.totalengineairflow.com gets some amazing numbers as well. If you want to go for an aftermarket head AFR is the way to go.
