clunk noise when im coming to a stop.
i just recently bought a 94 camaro z28 auto with 133k miles. it has headers full exhaust no cats , magnaflow muffler , k&n intake. zr1 rims with 285/45/17 on front & 315/35/17 on back. it needs a wheel alignment, the front passenger wheel is slightly toed out. i been driving it for about a week and i changed the tranny mount when i first got it. the car had a slight vibration/grind noise and the tranny felt like it was lifting when you punch the gas hard .so i changed the tranny mount . it still does it. tonight i drove about 20 minutes on the highway and smelt a musty weird smell while driving so i pulled over and looked to see if my belt was bad and it wasn't so i continued to drive home and as i get off the highway and I'm coming to a stop around10-15 mph something clunks towards the middle/front of the car. then as i start to pull away from being stopped i feel a vibration/grinding noise in the middle of the car around 10-15 mph . the tranny didn't slip,it didn't overly rev up while i was giving it gas or anything that would have me thinking it was the tranny. if i slowly give it gas or if i punch it, it has the same vibration/grinding noise along with the clunk when i start to stop. the rear doesnt whine at all. I'm really puzzeled . also when i go to put it in drive it clunks and then once its in drive it makes a chattering noise right after the clunk. the tranny doesn't slip when i give it gas after that happens either. if any one can tell me if this happened to you and what it was it would be greatly appreciated.
check your universal joints. check the torque arm bushing. look for any lose bolts. could try lifting the rear wheels and getting under the car and turning the drive shaft back and forth to see if the issue will show itself.
does this sound like a tranny problem? cuz it makes this grind /vibration at 10mph for a second by the center console then it goes away ( it doesn't slip when it does it)and it does it at the same time all the time
it sounds like a drive train problem and the trans is a part of the drive train. so it could be a trans problem but i would look elsewhere first. your gona have to get under there and have a look. take the converter cover off and make sure the torque converter is not coming lose. check the ujoints and stuff like i said. can not say what it is for sure can only guess without being there.
