Crank, rods, pistons. Heads from an LS1 will bolt on as will the intake. If it were me doing it over again I would go with an iron 6.0L block, they can take a ton more abuse and can be over bored and stroked for more cubes.

I think an LS2 block would be a really poor choice. I too would recommend going with a cast-iron 6-liter block (as from the Silverado pickup). Its the same as the LS2 block - all the heads, pumps, crank, rods, etc. will fit, etc., except you can bore it a bit more, so with a 4" stroker crank you get 408 cubes instead of a max 402 from an aluminum block.

I weights about 90 lbs more than the alum block but is bulletproof: will take lots of everything: revs, NOS, supercharging. 90 lbs is not too much weight, and you can partly compensate by moving the battery to the trunk - it weighs 30-40 lbs so you end up with about the same weight distribution as stock.

I would suggest you locate a reputable performance engine builder/machinist for your motor (iron block 6.0L maybe) and purchase a built version from them, then have a proff install it into your car - unless this is something you are intimately familiar with and have soemone with the tools and talent to help you. I got pretty good at pulling and re-installing my 4.6L engine into my cobra after I had done it 3 times...... But to pull/install a motor is easy compared to building a short block, you still need a pro to assymble the short block, then the heads - all of this has to be balanced and put together just right or you are asking for trouble. I found a really good machinist and I would take an engine nowhere else......live and learn.

The install on an LS1 is realitvly easy, the wires can only go to one place and with the front asscesories off the engine can be lifted out from the top (after the intake is removed). A first timer might not want to assemble a short block themselves but putting a motor in is easy.

id say to get the warhawk block if you can afford it , it puts the iron and the ls2 blocks to shame and its aluminum i am saving to get one for my car and the more people that buy it probly the cheaper it will get its cheaper then the ls7 and the c5r already though idk about the iron block if you dont mind the weight and you want cheap thats the best way to go and slp performance sells them as a shortblock im not sure about were to get a bare iron block though the warhawk comes bare.
