can i get to the fuel sensor from under the carpet in my trunk? any and all advice welcome

If you are talking about getting to the fuel level sensor by just lifting the carpet it won't happen. You will need to cut a hole in the floorboard. Otherwise, the fuel tank will have to lowered.

is it inside the tank, should i replace the whole tank, or is it cheaper to replace the sensor?

Fuel level sensor isin the tank as a part of the fuel pump assembly.

I'm not sure you could replace just the level sensor. Everywhere I've seen, they come as a pair.

found a walbro hi flo fuel pump for $119. Question though, my car starts fine except it reads full for awhile, then fluctuates between empty and full, is this still a pump issue or could it be something else?MAYBE THE FUEL FILTER?
