Default Help me start to have some fun

I'm going to be picking up a 97 camaro ss within a day or two. The car is a high milage unit - almost 194,000! I test drove the car and watched it being driven from behind - no smoking or anything of that nature. AC blows ice cold - didn't run hot at all and the car shifted smoothly (6 speed). Its a hard top, bonus.

I have friends and colleagues who can work on the car (certified gm mechanics) but want to ask the owners what I should do right away to make the car last a bit. What type of fluids should I use, what parts need to go on right away, the service engine light is on and I know that isn't a great sign but I'm taking a chance on love!

Wish me luck everyone, pics to come soon! [8D]

Before you buy ask the owners if you can take it to a shop fro a prepurchase inspection and find out what the light is on for. And then ask them for thier maintence records.

Believe me when I tell you that if I could I would. I'm going on a whim here. Don't ask why - I know its not an intelligent move. However, I'm waaaay to excited! My main concern is what maintenance issues should I do right away (besides the obvious such as flushing all fluids), and things I should do that someone new to an f body might not know about.
