Default Front Rear end seal

Ok so while i was taking off my rotors on the back of my 99 v6 camaro...i noticed a bunch of grease all over....figuring it was the seal...i was wondering if it has to be tapped in witha hammer or does it need to be pressed in. and sorry if i posted in the wrong spot....couldn't find a place to do with anything like this...and if there is one...my bad i missed it.

Thanks for anyones help. =)

It's called a pinion seal, and you can tap it in. They make seal drivers that lets you hit it in straight and easy since it is a very snug fit. But you can do it without using light alternating taps so you don't jam it in on an angle.

just did one on my 00 z28 its not that hard i took down the torsion bar and driveshaft, just mark the housing, nut and yoke in a straight line so you don't overtighten putting it back on, destroy the old one with a hammer and flathead so you can get it out then carefully tap the new one in with clockwise or counterclockwise staggered taps (light) it will go in. run the nut on til its almost flush then go in short bursts so you don't go past the line you made, and its easier to get the torsion bar in the trans side first then the rear (don't undo torsion bar mount on the trans, just unbolt from rear and it will slide out)
