Default Crankshaft front seal removal

Trying to get my crankshaft seal out. It's the one behind the harmonic balancer.

I have the whole timing cover off. This thing WILL not budge. Any tricks? Does the oil pump have to come off?

Thanks

IM guessing by the year in your title and you saying the oil pump is in your timing cover that you have a 3.8L. I did mine when I put the new engine in my car and it was a PITA but that was more trouble putting it in than taking it out. I simply destroyed the one I was taking out. I used a screwdriver or chisle to knock the outer flange into the hole then once that happened a pair of channel locks to pull it the rest of the way out. Getting it back in was the hard part as I didnt want to distort the seal by getting it in cockeyed.

Well I got it out. Similar to what you did.

So putting it in is crazy hard eh. hmm. I think I will try to rig something up where I can squeeze it in with some kind of vise evenly. Massive amounts of lube I reckon lol!

Thank you!
